Good review. I totally agree w/ your ranking. The concept of the Gauze, Flame
Haze, and Torches had me confused at first, but I kinda caught on... 5 episodes
in!
Well, I kinda liked this anime because it got me through my Love Hina and Ah My
Goddess withdrawl stage. I don't see too many fansites out there on this series,
however, so I might just purchase the manga to learn a little more about it.
A 4??? Sure, the story was a little predictable, but giving it a score that
doesn't break even?
"...improbable fight scenes..."
Duh! Its based on a video game, with a world as far detached from our own! We
neither have materia or chocobos for that matter.
"In AC, it's 100 minutes of bullshit. Nearly 100 minutes of pure useless
fight."
That's a stretch.
"Even The Spirits Within was more convincing in its story and
development."
...I'm not even gonna touch that one.
Some of the details as they developed in the story were a little predictable.
Oh, and Cloud was never in soldier to begin with. But Barret once commented that
he managed to surpass all soldiers.
Okay... b/c of these questions, I kinda get the feeling that ffvii: Advent
Children is geared towards fan service. SoI figure I'll try to answer these as
best as I can:
1) who is Jenova? is it a woman or a man? is it a robot? who knows because I
don't believe it was actually explained.
-Jenova, dubbed "the calamity from the skies", was a creature found in
the 2000 year geological spectrum. Shinra thought it was an Ancient/Cetra and
made an attempt to clone it. However, Jenova was actually a creature, whose
cells can split and recombine, that came to planets and destroyed them -
contrary to the role the Cetra played in creating life. The result of the
experiment was Sephiroth. So, Jenova = bad ( I remember Ilfana describing her as
a weapon... someone verify that for me).
2) who does Mother refer to? Jenova?...is Jenova a woman?
-The lifestream had been infected with Jenova's cells when Sephiroth enetered
the it. Anyone with the cells of Jenova, including Cloud, are considered her
"children".
3) exactly what were the little glowing orbs that Cloud kept and later Yuffie
had?
-Materia. In the game, you'd equip it to weapon slots to use magic.
4) why did three grey-hairs need the kids? what was the purpose? Because when
Cloud
confronted Kadaj in the forest, the children did not actually DO anything except
land from trees to form human shields. And after the mega battle with Bahamut,
the children, who were acting as a human blockade, returned to normal. Maybe
they were used as a device to waste a bit of time?
-They needed to collect the cells of Jenova, found in the victims of
Geostigma/Star Scar Syndrome to give birth to... well, you know. And, of course,
all the kids he rounded up were infected.
5) what was the significance of Rufus?
-Rufus was the president of Shinra, the company that exploited the energy
resource from the lifestream (Mako) and monoplized the energy industry. It was
their fault the planet was pissed.
6) what was the point of making references to Aerith?
-Aerith used holy to stop meteo, with the help of lifestream. She was also the
last of the Ancients/Cetra.
Sue me if I didn't pay enough attention if these questions were answered in the
movie.
- Yeah, a lot of details are found in the game which predates the movie. I guess
hardcore gamers should inform their friends of the original before taking them
to see this. Personally, I loved it.
Godd review, athrun07! I watched the anime and I fell in love with Chi's
cuteness! Although I read the entire manga prior to watching it, so I did expect
some deviation from the manga based plot (especially the episode "Chii
Takes a Bath"). I felt that they may have left out a few explinations which
are key to fully understanding the history/story of Chi (ie. why her reset
button is "down there").
Altogether, I thought it was an excellent anime.
